It is notable for the Krishna Temple and is also known as the temple city.The name “Udupi” is believed to have come from the Sanskrit words “Udu & Pa” that means “stars” and “Lord“. According to legend, the Moon’s light was once reduced due to a curse by King Daksha.
Murudeshwar -A popular pilgrimage town, Murudeshwar sees a large number of tourists flocking the town every year. The main attraction of the town is the Murudeshwar temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Built on a hill, the shrine is placed two feet below the ground and is believed to be part of the original Atma lingam. While only priests are allowed in the inner sanctum, there is a Natraj statue made of brass and a Jattiga shrine inside the temple.
